Title I Family Night Success: Down on the Farm!

We had a fantastic turnout for our Title I Family Night: Down on the Farm on Monday, October 13th — with 38 students and family members joining us for an evening full of reading, fun, and hands-on farm-themed activities!

Families came together to celebrate Charlotte’s Web and the joy of reading with a variety of engaging experiences, including:

Spider Web Craft – Students used glitter glue and construction paper to create spider webs, inspired by Charlotte herself!

Live Farm Animals – A HUGE hit with kids! Families got to meet two rabbits, a chicken, a duck, and a bottle calf. Students were able to pet the animals and even feed the calf, making the story come to life in a very real way.

Literacy Game – Students played a fun “duck pond” game where they drew a duck and answered comprehension questions based on Charlotte’s Web — supporting our One School, One Book program.

PTO Hospitality – A HUGE thank you to our amazing PTO for not only providing a free dinner of hot dogs, chips, and water, but also for sending families home with a cozy treat: a hot chocolate and s’more!

Special Thanks!
We want to give a shoutout to the individuals who made our animal experience extra special:

Ms. Jones, Superintendent – for bringing the bottle calf

Ashley Baer, PTO President – for bringing the rabbits

Ms. Mount, Elementary Art Teacher – for bringing the chicken and duck and creating our photo booth

Parent Take-Home Resources
Families in attendance received a helpful handout about the importance of reading at home, including how reading aloud builds vocabulary, boosts academic performance, improves empathy, and strengthens parent-child bonds.

Why These Activities Matter: Research shows that reading with children daily is one of the most powerful ways to support their academic and emotional development. Events like this build bridges between home and school — and remind us all that learning can be fun, meaningful, and shared.

Thank you to our staff, volunteers, PTO, and all the families who made this night such a success. We love seeing our school community come together around literacy, fun, and connection!

The Northeast Vernon County R-1 8th grade, 9th grade, and STEM classes had a blast with the 2025 Egg Drop Challenge! Even though not all the eggs made it, everyone enjoyed participating. The event is a fun and hands-on way to tie together gravity, force, and acceleration lessons. By applying these concepts in real-life scenarios, students can better understand the physics behind what happens when something falls from a height and the forces at play.
